Review of Insidious: The Last Key 2018 Full Movie: This is the scariest movie I have ever seen! It had me jumping out of my seat the whole time. Insidious: The Last Key has an amazing plot, making you question what is really going on. The film made me jump a lot, but it does have some humor that made me smile, which doesn't normally happen during a horror film. I like how the story behind the main character is melancholy, making the audience have to pay more attention to the relevance of her childhood and her current problem. The story follows Elise Rainier, a real-life ghostbuster and her haunted childhood house. The film travels back to her childhood when she realized she has a gift of seeing spirits and demons. Her mother tries to love Elise and her gift, while her father doesn't want anything to do with her.

With her gifts she opens a door, allowing an evil spirit into the world. She comes across this spirit again 57 years later, when a man is having supernatural experiences in the same house that she grew up in. When she arrives, things are worse than when she was a child. Elise Rainer is played by Lin Shaye who makes her characters' experiences seem very real. Elise's gang includes Specs (Leigh Whannell) and Tucker (Angus Sampson). Elise's brother, who suffered equally as a child, is Christan Rainer (Bruce Davison). My favorite part is when Elise finds out that her nieces survived and that her brother Christian accepts her for the person she is, including her talents. I like this part because it applies to the real world and reminds us to accept others for who they are and not to be afraid of their differences. Another message is that people's unique features have a purpose. I give this 4 out of 5 stars. The special effects with the demons walking or crawling is so terrifyingly real, especially the Key Face's hand. I recommend it for ages 14 to 18 as well as adults, especially if they enjoy horror films.
The fourth and hopefully final movie about Dr. Elise Rainier, who faces her most fearsome and personal haunting yet, as she is drawn back to her ghostly childhood home, where the terror began. The plot was entertaining and original, but it suffers from too many and silly fake jump scares. The Keyface Demon was horrifying to watch but it should have scared me more. The character Specs is so stupid that I roll my eyes whenever he says something.
Blumhouse Productions have created, for better or worse, an unshakeable horror film dynasty in the 2010s. Starting with the gargantuan success of "PARANORMAL ACTIVITY" in 2009, the production company continues to put out massively successful horror films that (in most cases) are actually pretty scary and wildly popular among audiences. However, with great such popularity comes the increased studio pressure to crank out as many films as possible, which almost always results in a decaying brand and film quality. The "INSIDIOUS" saga that started with their first film in 2011 has been one of the strongest among the BH cavalry, and this fourth installment, the shamefully-named "INSIDIOUS: THE LAST KEY" should not be good by any historical standards.
I was surprised to find that I really liked it! The writing here is nothing new, and at times so bad that you can't help but chuckle moronically, but the demons and scares were great! Lin Shaye's Elise is the only main character, but she is quite effective at embodying the role of tired/jaded medium who sniffs out demons to help frantic families in peril. Yes -- some of her dialogue, and the dialogue of her companions (Angus Sampson and Leigh Whannell) is atrocious, but it serves its purpose in breaking some of the tension (especially among viewers in the theater, where this film was no doubt much more of a terrifying experience as opposed to home-viewing). Director Adam Robitel exposes his talent at building up to his scares, and he even manages to pull off some of the jumps scares without them seeming like total cheap-shots. The film is involving and eerie, and the demons are scary as hell. I was pleasantly surprised to find myself enjoying this one as much as I did.
This delivery, is a considerable improvement for the franchise, compared to the ''Chapter 3 ''.
'' Insidious: The Last Key '' It takes us back to Elise's childhood, to her origins. We know their scares and fears, as well as their weaknesses, and the film knows how to take advantage of this aspect. Even so, this new "Paranormal Case" that the group faces in the childhood home of our beloved Parapsychologist, does not go so closely with the plot of the film itself. Although the story is interesting, it is not well polished, and they could have taken better advantage of it. In spite of this, the film manages to entertain the audience, and catch it with a confusing but interesting plot, with charismatic characters, including the spirits, as is our main antagonist "key fact" (which, in my opinion, is the best demon of the franchise so far) in a dark and macabre environment.
A significant improvement over the ''Chapter 3 ''.
Not as bad as critics say ;it helps a bit to have seen the previous three movies ;what the movie lacks in flashy special effects it makes up for in genuine scares and Linn Shayes' performance as Elise ;in the interest of full disclosure I saw the movie for free on Fandango with a free code I acquired from redeeming coke caps though I would have paid to rent it anyways;if you like horror movies with a decent story and practical effects rent this it's worth it .
Time to cut losses. So remember the old badass female parapsychologist (Lin Shaye) from the last three movies? Did you ever want to know what her backstory is? No? Well, you've got it with The Last Key, the fourth film in the Insidious franchise. While I wouldn't call the third movie a disaster, there was no evidence featured in it that gave any indication they had enough ideas to continue this storyline any further. As franchises continue, new installments can have the tendency to bleed together with their preceding films. This is especially the case with Insidious, and the only thing I remember from the first three movies is a couple of characters, the dimly lit cheap soundstage and that Darth Maul kid. While it does add a new antagonist in KeyFace, I still can't say that there is much of a reason for this movie to exist.
While The Last Key does focus on one of the best characters from the previous movies, they ended up shooting themselves in the foot. By explaining where she came from, they managed to kill all of the mystique surrounding her lore. Her background really doesn't add anything, it just makes it so if you revisit the original, you will know that she has a backstory that fails to compel. We have reached the point where this is just filled with clichés, and speaking frankly, this series just isn't interesting anymore. I got so bored with this for almost the entire time. There are about maybe 4 - 6 somewhat cool things about this, but they take up literally five minutes in a horror movie that is over ninety minutes long. It moves too slowly for there to be so little payoff, and you're either going to be fighting off sleep or phone interactions if you watch this at home.
I just didn't care about anything or anyone in this. They got the comedy duo back in the two wacky ghost hunters, and they don't have much to do other than ruin any goodwill they built with the previous films. I guess if you are a hardcore fan of the series you might get something out of renting this, but for me, this was always a series that was passable at best. I would implore the makers of this franchise to stop while they're ahead, but there's not a chance of that happening; the rate of return on these movies is insanely lucrative because they are so cheap to make, so mark my words: expect Insidious 5 coming sometime within the next two to three years.
