Review of Happy New Year 2014 Hindi Full Movie

Review of Happy New Year 2014 Hindi Full Movie: It would appear that the dynamic duo, Farah Khan, and SRK, have taken a few lessons from the Shaw Brothers school of action movies since their last flick. This one had a slow start - and when it did pick up, it began to lose me with its over-the-top farce entertainment, but as the story developed, it got better. I must admit I've seen all SRK's movies and though he's typecast as India's heartthrob and can annoyingly come across as having a bit of a big head in the press, I must admit that I, along with the rest of the world. am smitten by his charm and good looks on the big screen. Good story. Usual Bollywood fluff. Farah has a formula and doesn't veer far from it, but hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. As usual, love her end credits.

Farah Khan, the choreographer turned director is back with her 4th outing & like before she raises the entertainment quotient with a larger than life film, low on logic, and high on opulence, her movies flourish on song and dance, and rides purely on Shah Rukh Khan's shoulders, or might we add abs! along with really likable supporting characters! Here, she has attempted to gel one of the coolest heists to be seen in Bollywood along with a dance competition, as ridiculous as it may sound, the events transpiring do manage to keep you gelled to the seat.

This attempt could have easily fallen into the same trap trading purely on the stars' names rather than an intrinsic entertainment value, which seems to be the case for a certain Khan for the past few years. However, it manages to take what worked from the original Hollywood films Oceans Eleven and Italian Job and give it a great desi touch of emotions & revenge at its best. The film manages to unfold in an entertaining manner, from the comic set up introducing every character to the final showdown, Farah has made sure we don't endure any dull moments as finding out the details of the job bit by bit.

While the 1st half is a bit shaky sticking to the usual cliche route while pooling in a bunch of cameos, its the 2nd half of the film, where the action shifts to Dubai, the film speedily picks up riding towards an epic climax! Shah Rukh Khan as always is fantastic in the lead - his strength is that he has great charisma which means he doesn't have to ham it up. Instead, he does his stuff but allows others to try and shine while he is comfortable with a constant warm glow & unlike before he is presented more of an action hero, who can also dance & romance.

Deepika Padukone has never looked so gorgeous before! Its hard to turn your eyes away from her! This is one rare actress (of Bollywood) who excels in every department & role she performs. Boman Irani & Sonu Sood are hilarious & a delight to watch! Vivaan Shah gets the short end of the straw, but manages to salvage with whatever he can! Nice! Jackie Shroff pulls off the villain act with class & style, you just love to hate him! While not the leas, but probably one of the most underrated actors of our generation, it's Abhishek Bachchan who steals the show in a double role! Whether it's the drunken buffoon or the suave bachelor, he is hilarious & pulls every stop to make sure this is his best comic act yet!

The music by Vishal-Shekhar is also good! This is a film that will keep you fascinated the entire time you are watching. It does not stick to the conventional values of the genre that we have come to expect. The twists and turns guarantee that by the end you will be sitting there thinking 'that was really clever' or vice versa, while the comic elements will keep you divided; You will, like me, laugh throughout the movie - whether at or with them! On the whole, Happy New Year is a mindless larger than life masala entertainer, with a star-studded cast, an excellent second half, filled with the ooze of patriotism & fun, & clearly aimed to entertain the family audience!!

Charlie (SRK) is out on a revenge mission because his father Manohar (Anupam Kher) was conned by the crook Charan (Jackie Shroff) and put in jail for twelve years. The way to do that would be to steal diamonds worth 300 crores belonging to Charan. But for this, he has to take part in a world dance championship in Dubai. Despite not knowing the dance, Charlie ropes in Jag (Sonu Sood) an ex-bomb squad member, Nandu (Abhishek) who can puke anywhere anytime he wants, Tammy (Boman) an expert lock opener, Rohan (Vivaan) a hacker and Mohini (Deepika) a bar dancer. Whether Charlie is successful in his mission or not forms the rest.

The director has come up with a routine storyline and while the presentation was rich, the narrative was good . The dialogues were light-hearted. The script was very average but the screenplay was effective at and enjoyable. The background score was melodious and three songs were worth watching. Cinematography was the main strength to this film. Editing was okay. Costumes were extremely stylish to suit the royalty while the art department was superb. The film belongs to Shah Rukh Khan and he was too good. Deepika Padukone has once again proved why she is the best. Abhishek Bachchan was hilarious. Sonu Sood was perfect. Boman Irani was versatile and entertaining. Vivaan Shah was apt. Jackie Shroff was fair. Anupam Kher was graceful.

It is a huge challenge for any filmmaker to come up with a subject that justifies an ensemble cast and also provides the right kind of entertainment. In this film, the first half goes about with elements of humor, some romance and action as well. The interval bang was promising and the second half has a lot of dancing along with some amount of melodrama. Overall, this is a film which fits into the perfect masala potboiler and one should leave behind sensibilities and logic. A Diwali dhamma that the full family should enjoy, Farah Khan is back after TMK and yes this film will cross 200 crs.
