Review of The Boss Full Movie: "The Boss" is a decent Melisa McCarthy movie that is better than some of her other work. It's not a great comedy but it has some good laughs and a likable cast. This is not the annoying kind of Melisa McCarthy and she gives a committed performance for the film that pays off to create a funny character. This isn't a comedy I'll need to watch anything soon but if it's on tv one night you might want to see what all of this is about. A titan of industry who is sent to prison after she's caught for insider trading.

When she emerges ready to rebrand herself as America's latest sweetheart, not everyone she screwed over is so quick to forgive and forget. McCarthy is joined in The Boss by Kristen Bell, Peter Dinklage, and Kathy Bates.
The Boss is the second theatrically-released collaboration between Melissa McCarthy and husband Ben Falcone, which is proof-positive that McCarthy is only funny under the direction of Paul Feig because this film was LAME. I'll admit that I'm not the biggest McCarthy fan; I find her brand of comedy is more about random outbursts and describing what she's going to do to hurt people than genuine wit. I gave this film a chance based on the good-will she earned with Spy, but alas, she's back to her same old shtick including prat-falling all over the place and I think I only chuckled a few times at best. McCarthy's character is a Martha Stewart-like millionaire who is caught doing insider trading and loses everything when she's sentenced to prison.

Upon getting out she re-connects with her old assistant and sees a golden opportunity to turn a Girl Scouts brownie business into a profitable empire. The film is pretty much DOA, with neither the cast nor the script feeling energized at all and the only person who brought any sort of likability to the film was Tyler Labine in a supporting role. Peter Dinklage is also totally wasted here and probably gives his worst performance to-date as a former flame of McCarthy's who uses a kooky, faux French accent and is for some reason obsessed with Samurai culture...not making that up. The Boss is honestly just a lazy, paycheck movie for everyone involved as the script is basically non-existent and no one had to try at all here; there are better ways to spend your time.
I always liked Melissa McCarthy films when others said they were very bad, but this time it is totally different. I won't blame her, she always gives her one hundred percent and so for this film. But it was the terrible script that let her down. Actually, it is a watchable film, because of her, but without her completely unimaginable. The trailer looked much better than the film. It is a comedy, but the laughs are too far, not even a little smile in your face easy to obtain.

So it seems there are plenty of negatives about it than the good. I watched it prove the people are wrong about it, but in the end, I was wrong. This is the second time the director and McCarthy together for a film who is the real-life couple. But I liked 'Tammy' better, not this one and there will be one more film that I hope they would come up with much more interesting than these two. She is not a solo type star, her films are always the multistarrer. So whenever I hear about her new films, I get curious about her new partner. Kristen Bell was not bad, even Peter Dinklage has given a nice performance. So The casting was good, but they all did not get the good script or the role. I did not enjoy it means not that I won't recommend it. It did not work for me, but it might to you, so I advise be careful while choosing it.
A titan of industry is sent to prison after she's caught insider trading. When she emerges ready to rebrand herself as America's latest sweetheart, not everyone she screwed over is so quick to forgive and forget. With Gary Sanchez Productions (operated by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay) I had a glimpse of hope that this film wasn't going to be like other Melissa McCarthy movies like Tammy, The Heat, Identity Thief......I WAS WRONG, The Boss was just like the others.
There were some good, cheap laughs but most of them I didn't care about and the jokes mostly fell flat. The first 5 minutes was the best, the rest of the time I struggled not to turn off the movie. The cast was better than main star Kristen Bell, Tyler Labine, Kristen Schaal but the one that made me laugh most of all was Peter Dinklage but not even he could save this movie.
The Boss tries too hard to be funny and is a forgettable movie (thank god). I hope one day we will get a good new Melissa McCarthy because I'd rather get a prostate exam from Captain Hook than watch another mediocre Melissa McCarthy movie. Cheers and remember I watch bad movies so you don't have too.
