Review of Ice Age: Collision Course Full Movie

Review of Ice Age: Collision Course Full Movie: Normally, to me, when it comes to a movie having so many sequels they begin to get outplayed and lose the things that made them a joy to watch in the first place. And, let us not kid ourselves, this usually occurs after the sequel. With that being said the Ice Age series absolutely avoid that category every time a new one comes out. Sure, as in most movie sequels, there are a few additions that grind your gears and make you question the producers' and directors' decisions; but even with these moments (which there were only a few), the execution of the story and events unfold very well.

I will say that I couldn't exactly stand Peach's love interest, but I am so glad I got to see my favorite character in the series. Buck. Short for buckle; long for Bu. Of course, there are many fun scenes for the kiddies and humor for the adults. I would most definitely recommend this as a must watch for anyone who wants to laugh and enjoys a great flick.

It is pretty evident that with every new Ice Age movie, the franchise is just getting more and more dried out, and eventually 20th Century Fox is going to have to realize that it's not worth pushing these movies out anymore. I was really hoping that "Ice Age: Collision Course" was going to be the possible bounce back movie for Ice Age, as I found the first two movies to be one of my favorites in the franchise, the first one being one of my favorite movies as a kid. However, while this 5th installment wasn't necessarily bad, it wasn't one that will reestablish Ice Age as an overall good franchise.

It had a very mediocre plot, one that will do the job in getting both kids and adults decently interested in what's going on, and the pacing was pretty decent well also, a good mixture of plot-driven scenes, and comedy-driven scenes, neither dragging too long. The same characters are back, adding some from the 4th movie (which most of us forgot existed anyway), creating a sense of familiarity that kept me somewhat interested. The biggest problem with "Ice Age: Collision Course", though, is easily its unoriginality. I felt like I was just watching reused Ice Age jokes, there was nothing that felt original, really taking away from the comedy in this movie, which was one of the main things it relied on, and also Scrat's scenes to me are getting less and less engaging with every movie. In the end, "Ice Age: Collision Course" is a movie that I don't think anyone will be upset with, but it's definitely not one that people will look back on. This movie carries on the tradition of disappointing Ice Age movies and is not worth watching.

Can this be done now? A fact that is not known to many people is that it was actually Scrat that was responsible for the formation of our solar system, and in his hunt for his elusive acorn in a spaceship, he sets a meteor on a collision course with Earth, threatening an extinction level event... unless our ragtag band of talking animals can figure out how to divert it. When I think of the term "cash grab," this series is one of the first ones to immediately pop into my brain. If you track this franchise through the years, it went from mediocre to lacking to just lame. We've reached a new low with Collision Course as we barrel through the animation floor. Here's the thing though: comparatively speaking, these movies are cheap, especially next to a Disney product.

The animation is not anything fancy, and they have a bunch of B-list celebrities that they don't have to spend a lot of money on. The budget clearly isn't going to the writers, because it is plain to see that they had no solid core concepts going into this, and I am sure that they had actors improvise as much as possible in the recording studio. When you get right down to it, most of these characters don't have a whole lot to do. The biggest plotline involves Manny's emotional attachment to his daughter, but both Diego and Sid have next to nothing to do in this, and they are still being touted as main characters. I have to give Simon Pegg a lot of credit because so much of the heavy lifting in this movie rests squarely on his shoulders as the crazy weasel named Buck.

He is very much giving it an earnest try, but there is just so little here to work with. If you look at the cast list, you will quickly see that there are too many characters because these movies don't ever work animals out of the story, they just have them stick around until they finally decide to stop making these movies. Speaking frankly, I would have a newfound respect for this series if they decided to kill a couple of characters, or at least send them off into that dusty horizon. They could potentially make a leaner narrative, and the story would be stronger for it.

This is strictly hypothetical because they're never going to do that. I'm about finished with Scrat, which is a shame. He used to be the strongest part of the movie because his bits played out like Looney Tune shorts in the midst of a story that I never cared about, but at this point, he has overstayed his welcome, and it is just tired. They brought no new ideas to the table with Collision Course, the interest has clearly disappeared stateside if you check the domestic box office returns, and this series should pump the breaks.

Normally, to me, when it comes to a movie having so many sequels they begin to get outplayed and lose the things that made them a joy to watch in the first place. And, let's not kid ourselves, this usually occurs after the sequel. With that being said the Ice Age series absolutely avoid that category every time a new one comes out.
