Review of The 5th Wave 2016 Full Movie

Review of The 5th Wave 2016 Full Movie: The 5th Wave is a book to movie adaptation of the Best Selling book written by "Rick Yancy". It has amazing source material which when adapted to screen goes terribly wrong. The Plot to "The 5th Wave" is When Earth is attacked by aliens, there is a sequence of waves of destruction to annihilate the population. The aliens drain the energy and create diseases and natural disasters.

The teenager Cassie Sullivan moves with her family to the countryside, but when her mother Lisa dies, her father Oliver decides to go to a refugee camp with Cassie and her young brother Sam. Out of the blue, the army comes to the camp to transfer the survivors to a military base. They transfer the children first but Cassie misses the bus where Sam is. She learns that the in the 5th wave, the aliens have assumed the human form and she witnesses the military executing the civilians in the camp including her father. She flees and now she begins her quest to find Sam. Meanwhile, the teenagers and children are trained by the military to fight the enemy. But how to know who is human and who is alien?

The 5th Wave isn't the worst movie ever it is just very average. It is very cliche and the romance is super rushed. The cast did a pretty good job for what they were working with. It's basically a Hunger Games knockoff, tweenagers would probably enjoy it enough. Don't go out of your way to watch it but it's okay to just put on in the background. I just watched this movie on cable. This was probably the most retarded movie I have seen in years. They are fighting the "aliens" in the dark but have lights on their helmets the entire time so that they are perfect targets? The directing is horrible for an action movie. It's laughable. It's like an comedy/drama director tried to make their first action movie and failed miserably. Acting is bad all around too. I 'd rate it 1/2 star if that was an option.

Don't know where to start regarding what is wrong with this movie. All vehicles are disabled except the militaries? really? knowing at that moment they were alien based, the commercials became more interesting than the movie. The 5th Wave is so boring that at times I found myself forgetting that I was watching it. It's your generic young adult affair with a group of teens saving the day, this time against a group of aliens called The Others who have slowly been wiping out humanity through four previous waves of differing attacks. The story lacks originality and it's not helped by a cast of unlikeable characters and a stereotypical love triangle. There's nothing here to keep anyone bars the most simple-minded entertained. You would be better off spending 2 hours staring at a wall then watching this trash.

Still, the film isn't without it's flaws, as it is based on an idea that has been done to death. Aliens have invaded the Earth once again and this time they have done it in four crushing waves. Most of the planet is in ruins, millions are dead, and the few that are left have banded together to try and form some sort of resistance. A 5th wave is coming and the military has surmised that children will be the least affected by it, and have begun rounding them up and training them as soldiers. Cassie Sullivan (Chloe Grace Moretz) is one of these children, who is devastated to be separated from her family, but at the same time happy to be fighting alongside her lifelong crush Ben Parish (Nick Robinson). For me, this film was less about the story and more about it's stars.

As I said I didn't really care for the story, it's been done, and the whole Hunger Games love angel just seemed to be a lazy rip-off. What I did enjoy was seeing two of Hollywood's biggest young stars together in the same film, Chloe Grace Moretz, and Nick Robinson. Both of them have been getting bigger and better roles and to finally see them together in a major blockbuster film was a treat. Moretz's character was just another Katniss Everdeen/Tris clone, but she played it well. The true star of the film, was Nick Robinson, the popular kid in High School who transforms into Zombie, the fearless leader of the youthful army. Films like Kings of Summer and Being Charlie saw Robinson take the reigns and make those films his own, and in a way, he did the very same thing here. He may not have been THE star, but he certainly was the one to watch, as he was involved in every great scene this movie had to offer. The 5th Wave is a mix of elements and characters simply stolen from other similar stories. The special effects were terrific, the young cast was out of this world, but as a whole, this film wasn't anything special.
