Review of Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates Full Movie: This movie is okay. It has its funny moments, but also some dud moments. Aubrey Plaza is great and I'm a big fan, so that made it worth seeing for me. Anna Kendrick seemed totally wrong for this movie. From the hair color to her acting and the way they used her comedy. I think there are probably better choices out there for her role. the guys (from and divine) had good chemistry and worked well with each other to make some funny scenes. by no means, a purchase flicks it multiple match movies, but entertaining enough for a free or $1 rental. I enjoyed this film, but it wasn't that good of a film to really love it.

I like all 4 leads, but feel like Adam Devine works better in short tv episodes or supporting roles as he gets old if he is the lead. I thought the film was way too over the top and can't imagine much if any was based on a true story, besides the initial concept. I usually didn't believe Aubrey Plaza and Anna Kendrick as bad girls as they always seem so likable and nice. Overall, this film was fun and entertaining, but had many flaws and was only worth a one-time viewing.
A raunchy comedy about hard-partying brothers Mike (Adam Devine, Zac Efron) who start a public campaign to find perfect dates (Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza) for their sister's Hawaiian wedding, so the family would be pleased for once. Supposedly based on a true story. American mainstream comedies have a lot of improvised dialogue and scenes these days which can be great. Also, as in this case, it can bring mediocre results when there's not much content backing all that improving, or the players are not able to get creative enough. In this case, there's enough story for an unpretentious 98-minute entertainment but the dialogue remains generic and performances feel uninspired.
Both leading men, Efron and Devine, have done this sort of thing so much that they're always kind of cool. But the leading ladies, Aubrey and Kendrick, don't impress at all. They don't develop much of a flow of their own and settle for copying the guys. Dirty jokes are not that good either, and the blissful massage section which is supposed to be one of the major setpieces is just painfully unfunny. Mike and Dave" comes from the writers of Neighbors" and Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising" but offers none of the fun and energy of said comedies, not that these were true classics or anything.
It certainly doesn't help that at least three of the four leads have done this sort of thing way too much in recent past. It's hard to get excited again when all you're seeing is a case of SSDD. I immediately wanted to see this from the trailer, just looks like a great laugh. From the opening scene you know what you're in for, a buddy flick, a romance story, it delivers that perfectly. I'm a big fan of Zac Efron and Adam Devine's zany personality quickly grew on me. They make a hilarious duo and there couldn't have been a better romantic interest, Anna Kendrick. Devine had me in stitches towards the end and the comedic timing throughout is brilliant. There is undeniable chemistry between the leads, but it's your run of the mill Rom-Com, something fun too watch but does nothing for the genre. I'd say that the script is this films biggest downfall, they had great actors and some great laughs, but it's missing a good structure.
The story touches on loads of Rom-Com cliches, I've seen the exact scenario play out many times. The two more normal characters slowly fall for each other, whilst the crazy ones hate each other, but will probably end up screwing anyway. The ode hates fuck I believe it's called. The story is far from original, but I absolutely loved the cast. I saw the ending coming, but it was actually a lot of fun. It took me to the point where they're singing to realize that Devine and Kendrick are from Pitch Perfect, which I love.
It's a good laugh, there was a couple of moment where the comedy was hit and miss, but then a second later there would be something that had me in stitches. Fun fact, this was based on a true story, which is quite unbelievable. Hard-partying brothers Mike (Adam Devine) and Dave (Zac Efron) place an online ad to find the perfect dates (Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza) for their sister's Hawaiian wedding. Hoping for a wild getaway, the boys instead find themselves outsmarted and out-partied by the uncontrollable duo...
Aubrey Plaza's performance was praised, often noted as a highlight of the film. The Guardian wrote, "Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates" is very much an ensemble comedy, but much like "A Fish Called Wanda" earned Kevin Kline the Oscar, Plaza's ineffable style of comedy (which weirdly teeters between broad farce and muted disinterest) suits the material so perfectly she leaves the others in the dust." Variety stated "where the comedy really takes off, Aubrey Plaza, who was so sharp playing a good girl pretending to be bad in The To Do List, is even sharper playing a bad girl pretending to be good. She's got a face made for deception - she's like a devil doll, eyebrows lowering with cunning - and her line readings are killer."
"Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates" is apparently based on a real Craigslist ad placed by two brothers who wanted dates for their cousin's wedding that went viral in February 2013, which they then turned into a book, "Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates: and A Thousand Cocktails". After having seen "Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates" my first reaction was that it´s so stupid I wanna punch someone. It´s dumb, pointless, sexist, vulgar and offensive in so many ways I can´t be bothered to mention them. The film is based on nothing as pointed out and it becomes one long bad joke that never seems to end and there are no punchlines. The screwball comedy the production was aiming at (I assume..) is nonexistent. I have no issues with Zac Efron, he can for sure act when he gets a proper role in his hands, while I can´t decide if I like Anna Kendrick or not and Aubrey Plaza is hardly on my Hollywood hotlist. There´s no need to see "Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates".
