Review of The Shallows Full Movie: The writing here isn't anything spectacular for the jokes and plot line, it is pretty recycled, and almost an identical situation to the original, which is fine, I didn't expect it to be anything else really. I was just expecting since they decided to do a sequel that they had some great ideas for jokes that they didn't fit in the first film or could only do with a sorority. There are some good jokes, however, and some that fall pretty flat. So just keep that in mind if you watch this film.

Chloe Grace Moretz was a good touch to add to this cast and make her the opposing factor in the film, she's a good actress, I've never really seen her do comedy before so it was a nice change of pace I think, the closest she's gotten to comedy is the "Kickass" film franchise. Rogen and Byrne are of course the highlights here, I don't think Rogen can do much wrong in the comedy world, and Zac Efron again holds his own in the film. As much as I don't like to admit it, Efron is an upcoming very successful actor in the comedy genre of Hollywood. It was nice to see Dave Franko and the rest of the original cast have a small role in this film, which I was unaware was going to happen. Overall, not a lot of good came out of this film. Sure it was funny at times, I had a couple belly laughs, but why recycle something that didn't need to be? It falls short of being very funny and worth the price of admission. There isn't anything groundbreaking, or tears running down your face comedy, but I will say that there are far worse comedies out there.

Literally one of the most trash movies I have ever seen. First of all, the nods towards modern technology at the beginning of the movie were very staged and unnatural, and the subliminal messages paired with that use of technology reminded me of crass baby boomers writing click-bait articles about the failure of millennials. Additionally, it was so unrealistic. I know that's low hanging fruit to criticize, but come on. There is no way that the movie's heroine would have been able to kill a shark on her own, or that she wouldn't have bled out from a bite, or gained gangrene on that bite mark because of lack of sanitation. Blake Lively is a good actor. The writer of the script was not. When I saw this movie with my friends, I recall literally laughing at parts most likely meant to be dramatic or deep. I remember this movie as a comedy. Not a thriller or some action-packed, edge-of-your-seat drama.

The family interaction borders on Hollywood schmaltz. Superimposing Blake's face on to a body double is ridiculous - we know it's not her, we don't care; don't do close-ups. Some of the stunts are beyond ridiculous, but we don't watch these films for realism, do we? Some of the editings was a bit bizarre - at times it felt like I blinked too long and missed a few scenes. Especially the end scene comes hurtling towards you at breakneck speed. I was anxiously awaiting more adventure, just to find myself staring at the dead shark! (No, it is not a spoiler.)
Blake Lively is engaging, the film is beautifully filmed, Nancy's ingenuity is quite cool and, damn, it is a blockbuster starring a woman (and no one else, for that matter). The best thing about this film, though, is the suspense. You really sit on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. Jaume Collet-Serra uses the fact that his viewers know it is a shark movie. The more beautiful and idyllic the first epic waves are, the more you sit and worry about what is to come.
He utilizes sound to build up the tension. In the first surfing scene, he cuts quickly between the surfers catching waves and a pumping summer anthem and the subdued underwater sound of the ocean. Apart from good old-fashioned scare tactics (the shark jumping out at Nancy, the bullets falling into the water, etc), Collet-Serra also scares you by not showing you what the shark is doing, for example to the whale carcass, to a hapless drunk ocean reveler, or in the dark of night.
I wanted to watch The Shallows because it is similar to 127 Hours, a survival story. In part, I was right, they are fairly similar, in the way it's a film based around one person, fighting for there life. The Shallows has more of a living factor, Nancy (Blake Lively) vs. a shark. I feel this is where The Shallows falls behind, some bits with the shark just don't seem believable, never the less it was a good film, being a fan of Blake Lively helped, and by fan I mean having a crush. She carries the role well, the acting can't be faulted.
I can't say much bad about the movie, I enjoyed it, it was interesting from start to finish and the visuals were amazing, the setting and Blake Lively. They really make you feel for the character, her personality is really sweet, you want her to survive. A favorite character of mine would have to be Steven Seagal (the seagull), SPOILER ALERT. At the end when she's dragged onto the shore and she stops and looks around, and the seagull's jumping about, made me laugh, it reminded me of the "my nigga" meme from Training Day. As funny as I found it, it took away from the seriousness of the movie.
I'd recommend it to anyone who likes a good survival story. Well, Jaws version 10,05 has arrived and shark philosophy has not improved much. There are some good ideas but so many un-good ones as well. They lost me progressively more and more until the shark started to eat through metal (rusted but still) when the lost was complete. When the shark had his first bite, the injury did not look sharky. It got worse after that. Blake herself is quite the good-looking though and that was eye candy enough to see it through the end. The seagull was a nice touch. The shark was visually great but its behaviors were more akin to the Alien than shark.
Or maybe, ex-boyfriend stalker... I think it works well if you understand the psychology of the super-cute girl. Of course, every male animal want a piece of their ass one way or another. Then of course, the shark wants it too. They just need to invent a reason for it to go after it. In reality, I would think the shark would fill his belly with the whale and left all else alone. There would be other sharks coming though, and that is missing in the film. So, there is a better film about sharks still waiting to be made, where the hero (girl or boy) would use smarts to outwit them and come out alive. The extras in the DVD tend to agree with my analysis.
Okay, shark thriller would have been better without the fake looking CGI shark. Blake Lively plays alone vacationer in Mexico on a surfing trip and finds herself stalked by a shark after surfing alone one day. After the first bite chomps her board, she has to scramble onto whatever she can to keep away from the shark, which ranges from a dead whale carcass to buoys, to rock outcroppings. The film is beautifully photographed, with some especially nice surf footage, and Lively manages to carry the film in what is essentially a one-woman show.
However, it's the Sharknado-like overuse of CGI that ruins what might have been more suspenseful of film. SPOILER ALERT! Seeing a flaming shark fly through the air really takes you out of any sort of realism and places this squarely in SyFy Channel movie levels of ridiculousness. I may have been harder on this film after having recently rewatched Steven Spielberg's "Jaws," which famously showed very little of the shark, and as fake as the Jaws shark was, it was absolutely terrifying. Not as bad as I'd expected and is a respectable enough of little survival film, but it's nothing brilliant.
What to do on a Sunday night? What else better than watching a movie with the family. A nice horror/thriller movie with some nice buttery popcorn. Only to put on one of the most atrocious movies I have ever seen. I am a very generous person when it comes to movies and I am the very up front. I have watched jaws numerous times which was made in the 80's this is 2016 (when the movie was made) and if you did not know that, you probably couldn't have told that based on the unrealistic and stupidity of the movie. I almost fell asleep watching it and was bored out of my mind. I could guess the entire movie if u asked me to without watching it.
If you are looking to waste an hour and a half of your life, please go ahead and watch this movie. It was hyped up like no tomorrow and whoever made this movie should be embarrassed. I question whether or not the maker of this film is mentally stable. After all, I think you get my point that this movie was complete horseshit. Not to mention, I had more fun writing this up than I did watch that movie.
