Review of My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 Full Movie

Review of My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 Full Movie: Is this a masterpiece? No. Is it as bad as some say? Definitely not. Maybe It's because I always expect sequels not to be as good as the originals, but I really enjoyed it. It didn't require any effort but it wasn't boring or painful. Some characters have grown and others were given new dimension. It's the kind of movie I like to watch to cheer me up when I'm home with the flu or feeling a bit sad, and it works. Vardalos left the door open for a third one. If she does go ahead, I do hope she makes some changes to her usual formulas.

The first one was fantastic, the second one was a nice, funny movie following a clear path left by the previous one. However, if the third film is to be any good, Vardalos needs to add new components and a few unexpected twists if she wants to avoid making a straight-out bad film because she's clearly exhausted the old ones with the second. Again, I really enjoyed this film, I will watch it again because it's not a masterpiece, but it does leave me with a nice warm feeling inside.

Awesome chick flick for moms somewhere in the middle or latter half of their lives. Loved it! Better than expected. Love that drawn-out happy ending. The parents with their daughter about to leave the nest thing, so sweet. The grandparents getting remarried, kinda sweet, kinda funny. Toula and Ian renewing their vows to each other quietly at her parents' wedding, spontaneously, sweet. And their daughter even had a happy prom and met a great Greek guy. Yup, chick flick heaven!

Almost forgot the scene where Toula and Ian have a date night that ends up in their car with everyone a little bit shocked. That was kind of fun. Are love and fun over at 40? Apparently, they don't think so in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2! Do I expect a guy to love this? Nope, absolutely not! That's ok. There's a lot out there for men to watch. This ones for the girls.

The first movie had one simple story to focus on. This movie, however, has multiple stories going on, at the same time, which makes it a bit more complicated to follow. I didn't find myself laughing as much as I did in the first one because I was already familiar with these characters and their quirks. This sequel doesn't bring anything new to the story and might as well not exist. However, I am recommending the movie for two reasons. First, the love and support of the family are still there and they are just as strong and charming as ever. If you are looking for a loving family film, this should do nicely for a while. Second, there is a moral to this movie that is clearly expressed, in the end, with intercuts from three different scenes focusing on Gus and Maria, Toula and Ian, and the third on their daughter Paris. That moral is that no matter where you are on life's journey it is possible for you to still be in love. Before you read this I do just wanna say this contains some insanely minor spoilers on a plot that doesn't even have any plot twists or unexpected moments so there is really nothing to worry about. Let's begin. My Big Fat Greek Wedding is not terrible like some are saying. But not even close to the first movie. Usually, a movie has a goal the characters are trying to achieve. But this movie doesn't have one! It barely has a plot. Or at least a main one.

You would think the movie is about Toula's daughter whos named Paris. (That actually took me awhile to think of her name because of how unmemorable of a character she is) at least that's what I was thinking. Growing up, leaving home, etc. But it's far from it! The movie simply has a way to many subplots as it should. They have these subplots at the most random times of the movie and they do it at any time they can! Some are longer than others but the majority are quite short. Like annoying neighbors, prom, not wanting to get married for 15 seconds then wanting to, getting stuck in a bathtub, and even an extremely short gay plot! They literally just forced it in. There was no reason, no advancement to the unexisting plot, nothing! It's the same with all the other ones! And those were just a few of so many. The movie shines in its characters.

Pretty much everyone comes back from the first and yes... I mean everyone! The new characters are forgettable and boring except Paris towards the end of the movie. I say towards the end because she is absolutely a terrible and annoying character in the beginning and actually takes away from the movie. They focused too much on Paris when they really should have been showing off the old. After making a sequel to a movie made over 10 years ago you need to show off the old characters first because that's the only way people will actually care. It's almost like the plot was supposed to be about Paris and they changed it to the old characters halfway through production. We didn't even see enough of the new characters to see what kind of people they are.

Then they threw a scene of Paris to end her story at the VERY end of the movie! Right before they switched off of the new character plot. Paris gets accepted to 2 colleges. One where the family lives and one in New York. Paris' parents want her to stay so they set up a plan to do so. Paris then decides to go to the college nearby and they move on. Then like 30 minutes later she just randomly says she wants to go to New York. THAT'S IT! NO EXPLANATION NO NOTHING! She just changes her mind and no one cares.

Now since this is a comedy it has got to have some pretty good jokes, right? And the answer is yes. They do actually have some pretty good jokes. Although they also make a lot of the old jokes... like... a lot. It's half the jokes actually. Which is a disappointment but comedy sequels are usually not as good as the first movie and it's definitely better than some of those.

So my final verdict is a 5/10. It's an expectable movie. At best. It is a movie that could have been a ton better but did not have enough work on the story and jokes. If you enjoyed the first I still do suggest going and seeing it or renting because it is worth a watch.
