Taken 3 Movie Review

Taken 3 Movie Review: I didn't like this movie. It has its moments but these moments are ultimately too few and can't save the film from action sequences whose novelty has worn off by now and I just didn't feel the badassery of Liam Neeson's character meaning that this may as well serve as a disappointing conclusion to a trilogy. Better luck next time, Neeson and Luc Besson (producer, not the director).

I know why this film is still called "Taken" - because they've taken all the logic out of this one. Okay, the second one is missing a lot of logic, too. But here you've got just shaky-cam (not even in action sequences) and a man who does anything for his daughter, even risking her life in a spectacular stunt-driving moment, when he stops a plane from taking off. The story itself is a 1:1 retelling of The Fugitive, much less compelling and interesting than the original. Taken 3 has nothing to offer than a Liam Neeson who gets not a lot of fighting moments. Instead, director Olivier Megaton shows us Neeson running around the city. And honestly...Mr. Neeson is not a very convincing runner. He should run far away from this franchise though.

Once you realize that Taken 2 was more of an action flick running on a totally ridiculous premise, it should have been a warning early on that Taken 3 was going to be largely a disappointment. Taken 1 was superb, though not without its faults. T2 was great action, too much shaky cam but fun to watch. T3...waste of time that could be spent rewatching Taken 1. The one star is really because its finally been put to rest and just because Liam Neeson put his usual acting chops into it. If there is a Taken 4, so help me, Luc Besson..."I will find you, and I will kill you." (not literally, you get the gist)

Taken 3 is nowhere near as good as Taken 1 & 2. Although I don't think they were particularly good either, maybe 2 or 3 stars, at least they are watchable & provide some entertainment. I'm also not sure if I'm remembering correctly, but I remember being impressed by Liam Neeson in Taken 1, his fighting technique & him being believable as a tough guy. This movie I watched recently & he is highly unbelievable in fights. They make so many quick changes in camera shot just to try and take away from the fact that he is very slow. He looks like a very old man doddering about, the entire movie. Most of the shots are extreme close-ups & obvious stunt men & him just crouching down slowly after the fight looking like he can barely stand up afterward. The police & Forest Whitaker are a pointless addition to the movie. They don't work out anything, they are dumb bystanders just following everything that Liam does. It seems to be trying to be like THE FUGITIVE but failing miserably. The point in the Taken franchise is he is a guy with "A specific set of skills" but this movie he fails to protect his wife from death, which is kinda the point of the first two movies that he can save his family no matter what he has to face. I was bored the entire time. Not worth watching. Stick to the first two movies. Liam is now too old to do action movies.

Pretty much the same concept as the other two, you mess with Bryan Mills family and you end up up getting to face the big guy himself. Of the three this is the most action-packed, however this is also the movie that most relies on the action to catch its viewers attention. A solid conclusion in the Taken franchise. However, overall, the movie relies too heavily on its action, and not enough on the plot. I'd recommend if you want a movie with lots of action but not much content.
